Juno arranges with Venus the marriage of Dido and Aeneas by sending them to shelter themselves together in a cave during a sudden storm that scatters their hunting party. Here, Aeneas protects Dido with his red cloak as they rush towards the cave, their eyes fastened on one another. The owl, a bird of darkness, serves as a bad omen of what is to come.
